On Wednesday 14 September 2016, members of all Lodges within the Universities Scheme who are Master Masons and above are cordially invited to attend the first Scheme visit to Quarterly Communication. Quarterly Communication (QC) is an official meeting of the governing body of Freemasonry (UGLE) and is always presided over by one of the Rulers of the Craft (the Grand Master, Pro GM, DepGM or AGM).
At QC, the business of Grand Lodge is transacted. This includes accepting the formation of new Lodges and mergers of Lodges, as well as accepting Lodges handing in their warrants. Business with foreign Grand Lodges is also with, and at each meeting Grand Masters from across the world attend to represent their country’s Grand Lodge. Meetings include updates from the Masonic Charitable Foundation as well as the Board of General Purposes. The meeting is also usually addressed by a well-known Mason who speaks on a chosen topic of Masonic interest.
The aim of the event in September is to bring members from across the Scheme together on one day for fraternity and socialising before the new Masonic year kicks off. Such an idea was raised at the last Scheme conference and we hope this will be the first of many such joint events. After the meeting itself we will be hosting tables at the official lunch, which is a fantastic opportunity to meet and socialise with fellow Scheme members as well as members of the Committee. Following this there will be a special tour of the library and museum, a great chance to further explore one of the most beautiful buildings in London.
At this stage, all we ask is that those who are interested provide their details so we can gauge numbers; this doesn’t have to be a firm commitment. Further details regarding logistics for the day will be sent out in the coming months, and we will finalise numbers in August. We will co-ordinate directly with the Grand Secretary’s office in respect of obtaining tickets for all Master Masons (these normally need to be obtained fro your Province), and we will make central dining arrangements for everyone.
